Visit at Hookset Public Library

The Hooksett Public Library had significant flooding from a roof leak last August, so we have been unable to visit with all the ongoing construction and displacement of the children’s area. It is fully renovated now, so Walter and I were invited back – yay! We visited with a couple of 3-4 year olds who “read” and showed Walter a couple of books, which turned into play! The first book was about dinosaurs, and the child then wanted to show Walter all the dinosaurs, what they were called, and what they ate, etc. So cute, and Walter was soooo patient while the boy showed him everything dinosaur! Somehow the play turned into playing doctor, and both children took turns pretending and playing with the toy medical kit to make sure that Walter’s heart was beating and that he didn’t have a temperature or need a bandaid. I carefully monitored all this pretend play to make sure Walter was still enjoying this type of attention, and it was clear to me from watching his body language that he was perfectly comfortable in this situation. So proud of him!

Another visit with Walter:

Walter and I went to the Hooksett Public Library again. There were about 6-7 children this time taking turns reading to Walter or just wanting to hang out to pet and talk to him. A few minutes before our scheduled time was up, a couple came in with their 1 year old baby to specifically see Walter. The baby was more interested in playing with the toys, but mom & dad wanted to visit and pet Walter, hear all about him, and asked so many questions! Mom especially seemed to enjoy just sitting on the floor petting him and talking to him while dad followed their baby, who had just learned to walk, all the around the library. I think mom got the most therapy out of meeting Walter that day!
